The 2019 cyclocross season is here. As we write this, the Rochester, NY UCI sanctioned races are underway. What is new this season, in the world of cyclocross?
On the national scene, the U.S. cyclocross community has received the news that several big races were inexplicably cancelled (Sacramento, Reno, Gloucester GP). The Gloucester cancellation should be an alarm bell to everyone hoping for more big league UCI-sanctioned races. Gloucester was one of the longest-running races in the country, with amateur categories filling up within minutes of online registration opening. WTF happened? I’m sure we will hear more.
On the other hand, new grassroots events are creeping into the picture, and for the first time in, like, forever, the entire UTCX series is USAC sanctioned.
Have you bought a license yet? USAC is offering a promotion for unlicensed riders to buy in at a discount. Limited time offer- Race for the rest of 2019 and all of next year for only $130! Just go to USAcycling.org and join up.
There are many interesting developments as far as bikes and gear are concerned. We are super excited to continue our sponsorship and affiliation with Trek Bicycles and Storm Cycles, Park City’s local Trek dealer. We got our hands on the new Boone 7 rig with SRAM eTap, and can’t wait to get it dirty! The Boone is the smoothest riding UCI pro level bike out there, and with an eTap 12 speed drive train and upgraded wheels compared to previous years Boone 7, we can’t wait to get this bike between the course tape.
