September 11, 2015: For the second consecutive year, Ogden, Utah was the host city for USA Cycling’s Masters National Championship Road events. Just like last year, the road race started and finished at Snowbasin Resort in Huntsville, Utah. And for the second consecutive year, the X-Men’s very own Thomas Cooke earned a podium spot in the 45-49 age group, improving on last year’s 5th place finish and moving up to 2nd place. The race started on the Snowbasin access road, descending Trapper’s Loop towards Pineview Reservoir, then looping the reservoir three times clockwise, before turning up the “old” Snowbasin road, approximately 5 miles of climbing, and ultimately finishing where it started. Upon hitting the final climb to the finish, Cooke emerged from the front of the peloton, forcing the pace early, and was part of a small group going for the win. Included in that group was last year’s winner Chris Phipps, who once again proved to be the strongest of the bunch. Phipps would go on to finish solo by 56 seconds, with Cooke winning the group sprint for 2nd place.
